The Tipping Point

Once upon a time Americans cared about "freedom". Some even went to war and died fighting, believing they were defending their country from tyranny.

Not without reason. After all, when aggressive tyrants such as Hitler and Stalin were not busily invading and occupying other countries, they were secretly arresting and imprisoning their citizens indefinitely, without trial or charges. In these sad slave states, anyone deemed to be an enemy of the regime was likely to be killed at the tyrant’s sole discretion, without any kind of due process.

We used to frighten ourselves by reading "1984", George Orwell's classic. Orwell depicted a grim future in which “Big Brother” would read everyone's mail, intercept all communications, and literally watch each individual’s every move.

Apparently things have changed.
